Your Brain Was the Wi-Fi

My son looked at me one day and sighed,
“Dad, growing up today is so much harder than when you were a kid!”
I smiled.
“Oh really?”
He nodded seriously.
“You had it so easy!”
So I took his phone away for the entire weekend.
Then I placed four things on the table:
A dictionary.
An encyclopedia.
A road atlas.
And a phone book.
He stared at the pile like I had just handed him ancient technology.
“What am I supposed to do with all this?”
I smiled.
“Those are your offline apps.”
“Dictionary = Spell Check.”
“Encyclopedia = Google Search.”
“Road Atlas = Google Maps.”
“Phone Book = Your Contacts.”
My son flipped through the pages for a few seconds.
Then he looked up, genuinely concerned.
“Dad…”
“Where’s the Wi-Fi?”
I laughed.
“Son… back then, your brain was the Wi-Fi.”
He stared at the books.
Then at me.
Then at his phone sitting across the room.
“Dad…”
“Can I at least get the password to my brain?”
