Sister Mary Margaret woke up, saw the bright morning sun, and instantly panicked—she was terribly late for morning prayers.
Scrambling into her habit in the dark, she bolted out of her room and sprinted down the convent hallway.
As she hurried past Sister Agnes, the older nun grinned mischievously. “Well, well, looks like someone got up on the wrong side of the bed today!” Sister Mary Margaret rolled her eyes and kept running.
A moment later, Sister Martha spotted her and chuckled, “My goodness, someone definitely got up on the wrong side of the bed!” Now thoroughly irritated, the breathless nun picked up her pace.
Just outside the prayer room, she crossed paths with Sister Elizabeth. Exhausted and furious, Mary Margaret raised a warning finger and snapped, “Don’t you dare say it! If you tell me I got up on the wrong side of the bed, I swear I’ll slap you!”
Sister Elizabeth smiled sweetly, shook her head, and replied:
“Oh, I wasn’t going to say that at all, dear sister… I was just wondering why you’re wearing the bishop’s slippers.”
