The Religious Horse
A man wanted to buy a horse for transportation, so he went to see a pastor who was selling a horse owned by the church.
The pastor gave him strict instructions: “This horse is very special. It was raised in a religious environment since it was a colt. It doesn’t understand standard commands. If you want it to run, you must shout: ‘Praise the Lord!’. And if you want it to stop immediately, you must shout: ‘Amen!’.”
The man nodded to remember, climbed onto the horse’s back, and took it for a test run. He shouted confidently: “Praise the Lord!”
With a sudden burst, the horse took off at a full gallop. The man was absolutely thrilled, feeling the cool wind whip past his ears. He shouted it again to go even faster: “Praise the Lord!” The horse ran even faster, reaching terrifying, racecar-like speeds.
Suddenly, the man panicked as he realized that just a few hundred yards ahead was a massive, steep cliff. In his utter terror, he forgot the pastor’s specific commands. He desperately screamed: “Stop! Whoa! Hold on! Oh my god!” but the horse kept charging wildly toward the edge.
Just 15 feet away from the cliff’s edge, the man suddenly remembered. He shut his eyes tight and screamed with the last bit of his strength: “AMEN!!!”
Screeech! The horse slammed on the brakes instantly. Its hooves skidded and stopped right at the absolute edge of the deep abyss, sending dust flying into the air.
The man tremblingly opened his eyes, looked down at the bottomless canyon below, and let out a massive sigh of relief. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, looked up at the sky, and cheered happily: “Praise the Lord!”
