A man in Texas had been calling City Hall for months about a massive pothole right in front of his house.
Every time he called, he heard the same response:
“Sir, we’ve added it to our maintenance schedule.”
Weeks went by.
Nothing happened.
The pothole got bigger.
Then bigger.
At this point, it was starting to look less like a pothole and more like a small swimming pool.
Finally, the man had an idea.
He called City Hall again.
“Don’t worry about fixing the pothole anymore,” he said.
The operator sounded surprised.
“Oh? Did someone finally fill it?”
“Nope.”
“So what happened?”
“Well, I planted a little American flag right in the middle of it.”
The operator paused.
“And I put up a sign that says…”
‘FUTURE SITE OF A NEW TAX OFFICE.’
There was a long silence.
“A… tax office?”
“Yep,” the man replied.
“I even posted a picture online. People are already protesting.”
The operator hung up.
Twenty minutes later…
Three city trucks arrived.
Then two police cars.
Then a supervisor.
The pothole was filled in less than ten minutes.
As the supervisor prepared to leave, he looked at the man suspiciously.
“Why on earth did you tell everyone we were building a tax office here?”
The man smiled.
“Because apparently…”
“The only thing this town fixes faster than potholes…”
“…is anything involving taxes.”
