Melania Trump Mocked Online for Wearing Sunglasses at Night
Donald and Melania Trump have returned to Washington, D.C., after spending Thanksgiving in Florida, but it wasn’t the former president who went viral this time — it was Melania’s outfit.
The Trump family spent the holiday weekend at Mar-a-Lago with their son Barron. While Donald made headlines for various political comments and appearances, Melania largely stayed out of public view and focused on family time.
But once the long weekend ended, her quiet profile changed.
Sunglasses at Night Spark Online Ridicule
On Sunday evening, Marine One touched down on the White House lawn. As Donald and Melania Trump exited the helicopter — after previously stepping off Air Force One — viewers online noticed something unusual:
It was pitch dark outside, yet Melania was wearing oversized sunglasses.
Critics on X (formerly Twitter) quickly pounced:
“She’d walk down those stairs better if she wasn’t wearing sunglasses at night. Does she think she’s Anna Wintour?”
“If she’s not hiding behind sunglasses, she’s hiding under a huge hat. She doesn’t want to look at anyone.”
And then came the conspiracy theories.

Body Double Rumors Resurface
Some users revived the long-running, tongue-in-cheek claim that a Melania “double” appears at public events.
“Why would the real Melania wear sunglasses after dark???”
“Sunglasses at night — must be the body double.”
“Is she channeling Cory Hart now? Normal people don’t wear sunglasses at night,” one joked, referencing the singer’s 1980s hit.
But not everyone criticized her.
Fans Defend Melania’s Look
Some users suggested practical reasons for the sunglasses:
“Maybe she wasn’t wearing eye makeup and didn’t want to be photographed. I do the same when I travel,” one person wrote.
Others praised her style:
“Melania should publish a fashion book. Her coats, jackets, sunglasses — she’s pure class.”
Old Christmas Controversy Resurfaces

As the holiday season begins, online chatter also revived a 2020 controversy involving Melania.
Last week, she welcomed the official White House Christmas tree — a yearly tradition for first ladies.
But in 2020, leaked audio released by former friend and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff revealed Melania expressing frustration with holiday duties during the Trump administration.
In the 2018 recording, Melania vented that she was criticized for her husband’s border policies while being expected to enthusiastically lead Christmas décor efforts:
“They say I’m complicit. I’m like him. I don’t do enough. Meanwhile I’m working my a** off on Christmas stuff — who gives a f*** about Christmas decorations? But I have to do it.”
She also complained about being atta:cked for the family-separation policy while claiming similar issues existed under previous administrations.
