What can a parent do to dissuade their children from playing with gadgets too often? Well, this mom from Thailand came up with an ingenious plan!

It started when the little girl began to develop an addiction to the smartphone and struggled to get away from it that her mother then came up with the trick up her sleeve.

When the little girl was sleeping, her mother decided to apply a black shadow around the little girl’s eyes.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the little girl screamed after discovering what her eyes looked like after she woke up from her sleep.

It seems to be a successful trick to keep her daughter from using her smartphone too much, as the girl was scared and started crying. The mother then warned her for not touching her smartphone too much, otherwise she would end up with black eyes.

“After waking up and seeing herself in the mirror, she screamed. I told her it’s because you played (on the phone) so much,” the mother said.

Although she managed to trick her daughter, many netizens and health experts have advised against playing pranks like this on young children, as it can leave them with lifelong psychological scars.

Public Health Malaysia, in particular, took to Facebook to warn about the harms of trauma-inducing punishment.

“While having a trauma, children’s brain is in a state of stress […] Any form of trauma will remain in memory for a long term,” they said.

They further explained that while it is up to parents how they want to raise their children, playing a prank or a scare was not the best way to break children’s bad habit.

They also said that tricks like this will greatly affect children’s trust in their own parents. “Parents are the most trusted person by children. If they find out that parents have cheated on them until they have trauma, would they still be able to trust parents like before?”

Every parent has their own unique way of raising their children. These kids need to know about the effects, consequences, and responsibilities from their own actions but parents make their own decisions on how to educate their children,” they added.
