Meghan Markle reveals one strict rule for food writer who had rare access to her ‘real kitchen’ in $14m home

In a rare interview published earlier this week (April 2), New York Times journalist Julia Moskin disclosed the rule to the Duchess.

A journalist who gained exclusive access to Meghan Markle’s “real kitchen” in her $14 million home has revealed one strict rule she set before the visit.

Fans of the Duchess of Sussex have recently been treated to glimpses of her personal life following the debut of her new Netflix series, as well as her family life with Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who have made more frequent appearances on her social media in recent months.

However, her lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, wasn’t filmed at her home but rather at a nearby location.

According to Julia Moskin, a food writer for the New York Times, Meghan had a clear rule when she arrived at the Montecito mansion to be interviewed before the launch of her brand, As Ever. Specifically, Julia was not permitted to take any photos, which seems completely reasonable.

“I was allowed in on the condition that no photographs were taken in, or of, the house,” she wrote in the article published on Wednesday (April 2).

In the same interview, the former Suits star also briefly addressed criticism that she isn’t ‘relatable’.

“Don’t they know my life hasn’t always been like this?” she asked.

The outlet pointed out that before meeting her future husband Harry in 2016, with whom she later had two children, Meghan was “divorced, in her mid-30s, and uncertain about her next job or where she would live.”

Meghan, who has also recently announced her upcoming podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, explained that she has taken on these projects because she enjoys having a career, emphasizing that she has never been without a job since she was 13, long before meeting the Duke of Sussex.

“I need to work, and I love to work. This is a way I can connect my home life [raising children Lilibet and Archie] and my work,” she shared.

Meghan’s As Ever range, which saw several products sell out quickly, features her “signature” raspberry spread ($14 or $9 without packaging), inspired by a recipe she created in her own kitchen. The blend “delicately mixes the sweetness of raspberries with a hint of lemon.”

The collection also includes a tin of flower sprinkles ($15), which Meghan showcased in her Netflix series, demonstrating how the edible flower petals can “act as confetti for your plating,” whether topping shortbread biscuits for a pop of color or adding an unexpected flourish to omelettes and scrambled eggs.

Other items in the range include herbal lemon ginger tea, herbal peppermint tea, herbal hibiscus tea (all $12), crepe mix ($14), shortbread cookie mix with flower sprinkles ($14), and a limited edition wildflower honey with honeycomb ($28).
