While seated in the Cabinet Room, Musk sported a bright red cap reading Gulf of America, a reference to former President Donald Trump’s earlier renaming of the Gulf of Mexico. The hat’s design mirrored the recognizable “Make America Great Again” style, complete with the numbers “45 – 47,” nodding to Trump’s unique role as both the 45th and now 47th U.S. president.
What truly set social media ablaze, though, was Musk’s decision to layer his headwear. In video clips circulating online, the Chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was seen wearing a red cap stacked atop a black one. He removed both just before speaking, which drew amused reactions online.
Trump couldn’t resist making a quip. “Elon, love the double hat, by the way. He’s the only guy who can pull that off.” Musk responded with a grin, “Well, Mr. President, I wear a lot of hats. Even my hat wears a hat!”
The moment went viral almost instantly.

Still, not everyone was focused on the hat stunt. Eagle-eyed viewers pointed out what looked like a scar or visible mark on Musk’s neck.

Others criticized the overall look, questioning whether his casual attire was suitable for a formal government setting.
