Boy asks his bullied classmate to follow him to the school gym and gives him the sneakers he had always wanted
Bullying is an extremely stressful situation for anyone; as a child, it negatively effects their social, physical, emotional, and mental health. It is found to be linked to depression, anxiety, and low self esteem.
Bullying can have terrible consequences for the victim, even in the years following the maturity of the bullied party. For this reason, the splendid story of kindness and solidarity between adolescents that we want to tell you about today has a truly profound and important meaning.
It all started when young Tae Moore, a student at the same South Carolina high school that Tyler Bates attended, noticed how his fellow classmate was constantly being mocked and bullied for his appearance, his clothes, and his behavior. Tae had to do something to help Tyler and make him understand that he was definitely not alone.
He went out of his way to buy Bates a new pair of Jordans.
This incident was captured in a video by Tae’s friends and was posted online, after which it immediately went viral.
On a morning like any other at school, the kindly Tae Moore asked Tyler to follow him to the school gym. Tyler, fearful of what might be waiting for him, nevertheless decided to follow his classmate – only to unexpectedly find himself the subject of a surprising and extraordinary act of kindness…
The two boys reached the school gymnasium, and Tae presented his bullied classmate with a brand new pair of sneakers. Tyler immediately put them on and Tae helped him to lace them up. And then, at the end of this moving moment, the two boys hugged each other: “I heard that people bully you, so I wanted to give you these sneakers to make you feel better,” Tae said to Tyler at the time.
On Thursday, Tae Moore published a video on Facebook that showed him giving classmate Taylor Bates the shoes.
“This kid go to our school named Eazy-E. He likes to rap and etc., he said he wants to be a rapper, just trying to chase his dream but kids at school like to bully him and pick on him and talk about the way he dresses and looks, so I went and bought him some Jordan’s,” Moore said partially in the post.
Bates responded in an Instagram post and thanked Moore for his kindness.
“He said, ‘I heard people have been bullying you, so I wanted to get you these to make you feel better, and when he said that I hugged him and I almost cried, and I cannot thank him enough,” Bates wrote.
In less than a week, Moore’s Facebook video has more than 2.8 million views, 83,000 likes and 73,170 shares.
Treat people with compassion
Usually, people who are bullied feel ashamed to speak up about it to their parents or school authorities as they often feel like a burden to others. The scars of bullying remains even when the bully isn’t physically present.
In such times, support and kindness shown from fellow classmates can help them speak up for themselves. Tae’s compassion not only warmed Taylor’s heart, but also made him feel like he has someone to rely on while fighting his battles.
This boy’s gesture says more than a thousand words: this is how bullying is defeated!
