A pastor was going through the household expenses one evening when he noticed something that made him stop in his tracks.
Tucked inside his wife’s purse was a receipt for a brand-new designer dress.
Price: $250.
He looked at his wife in disbelief.
“My dear,” he said, holding up the receipt, “how could you spend this much on a dress? You know we’re trying to stick to a very tight budget!”
His wife looked genuinely apologetic.
“I know,” she sighed. “But the devil was right there with me while I was shopping. He kept telling me how beautiful the dress looked on me and that I simply had to buy it.”
The pastor smiled patiently and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “In those moments, my love, you’ve got to yell out loud, ‘Get behind me, Satan!’”
His wife nodded.
“I did exactly that.”
“But then…” she said after a pause.
The pastor raised an eyebrow.
“…he said, ‘It looks even better from back here.'”
