A third-grade teacher asked her class to name things that end with the suffix “-tor” and are also known for eating things.
James raised his hand first. “Alligator!”
“Excellent, James! That’s a wonderful, big word,” the teacher smiled.
Alan went next. “Predator!”
“Terrific, Alan! Another great choice,” she praised.
Then, Little Johnny confidently waved his hand and blurted out, “Vibrator!”
The teacher nearly fell out of her chair. After catching her breath, she cleared her throat and said, “Well, Johnny… that is certainly a large word, but it doesn’t actually eat anything.”
Johnny shook his head defiantly and replied:
“Oh yes it does, teacher! My mom has one, and she says it eats batteries like there’s no tomorrow!”
