The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly wish to keep the HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles for their children, five-year-old Prince Archie and three-year-old Princess Lilibet.
However, insiders believe their involvement in royal duties under the future reign of Prince William will likely be minimal — or even nonexistent.
William Has No Plans to Involve Harry’s Children in Royal Roles
According to reports, Prince William does not plan to give Archie or Lilibet any official royal responsibilities. A palace source told The Times:
“What’s striking now is that he just doesn’t talk about it anymore. There was a time when family issues, especially his relationship with Harry, weighed on him constantly. It used to really upset him, but now he seems to have moved on. It might be sad, but he’s clearly in a much better place mentally.”
Andrew is Also Seen as a Liability
Sources say Prince William also views his uncle, Prince Andrew, as a risk to the royal family and the monarchy. Therefore, Andrew is expected to remain sidelined from royal duties, much like Archie and Lilibet.
Earlier this year, William described 2024 as “probably the worst year of my life” as he coped with the stress of Princess Catherine’s cancer treatment and King Charles’s own health challenges.
Reshaping Royal Leadership
Despite personal hardships, William is taking a more modern, streamlined view of royal service. He has championed projects such as Homewards, aimed at tackling homelessness, and continues to support the Earthshot Prize.
Reflecting on his evolving role, the Prince of Wales said:
“I can only describe what I’m trying to do as different. Maybe a smaller ‘r’ royal. It’s about making an impact — working collaboratively, uniting people, and providing help where it’s needed. Empathy is central to all of that.”
He continued:
“I care deeply about the work I do because it affects people’s lives. I believe the world needs more empathetic leadership, and I’m trying to be part of that. Catherine is, too. Everything we take on — Earthshot, Homewards, future initiatives — revolves around the values that improve lives.”
