Michelle Obama shares how she and Barrack overcame ‘rumors’

Even after Barack Obama completed his two terms as President, Michelle Obama has remained in the public eye.

Recently, rumors have circulated about a possible divorce, with some even speculating that Barack had moved on.

Keep reading to see what Michelle Obama has to say about these rumors.

Michelle Obama on Handling Rumors

During a recent appearance on IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, the former First Lady opened up about how she and Barack have remained resilient in the face of rumors and negativity.

“People always ask me and Barack, how did we stay hopeful in, not just the eight years that we were in the White House, but beyond?” Michelle shared. She acknowledged that throughout their time in office, they faced a lot of false narratives, including claims that Barack was not born in the U.S. and accusations that they were not patriotic.

“Because, let me tell you, there was a lot of negative energy flipping our way — a lot of rumors, a lot of gossip, a lot of, you know, my husband wasn’t born in this country … we weren’t patriotic, he didn’t get into Harvard.”

“But through it all, what kept us sane — and we tried to instill this in our daughters — is, you cannot live through social media,” she stated. Michelle emphasized the importance of blocking out negativity and avoiding online gossip, revealing that she has never once looked at a comment section.

“Don’t let that negative energy enter into your space. These are people who don’t know you. A lot of this stuff is made up, and it does not feed you,” she explained.

“That doesn’t mean you don’t stay informed, but staying informed has nothing to do with the comment section. It has everything to do with the content of the stories that you take in.”

She clarified that staying informed is different from engaging in gossip, urging people to focus on the content of stories rather than online speculation. She also expressed concern over how dependent society has become on social media, stating, “We’ve got to broaden our spectrum, and we have to get off the phone,”

Rumors of Divorce and Barack’s Solo Appearances

In recent months, speculation about Michelle and Barack’s relationship intensified after the former president attended several events alone. Barack was spotted solo at Jimmy Carter’s funeral and again at Trump’s 2025 inauguration, fueling whispers about a possible separation.

However, a source close to the Obamas clarified Michelle’s absence, explaining that she has “checked out” of the Washington, D.C., lifestyle and prefers to focus on personal endeavors rather than attending political events.

Barack Obama’s Public Declaration of Love

Despite the rumors, Barack himself has subtly dismissed the speculation. Earlier this year, he shared a heartfelt birthday message for Michelle on social media. Along with a picture of the two of them celebrating Valentine’s Day, he referred to her as the “love of [his] life.”

This public display of affection served as a reminder of their long-standing relationship. The couple, who have been married for over 30 years, continue to focus on their family and personal growth. They share two daughters—Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23—who have also grown up under the public spotlight.

Final Thoughts

The Obamas’ approach to handling public scrutiny is a testament to their resilience. Instead of addressing baseless rumors directly, they continue to live their lives privately, focusing on their family and personal endeavors.
