After being hurled 25ft off a bridge by a “jealous” friend, the girl now has to sit on a wheelchair forever said “it’s made her a better person.”
Emily Holliday, 20, suffered catastrophic injuries while she was walking home after a night in Solihull, Birmingham, with friends in September 2018.
As her group of friends approached a canal bridge, a 17-year-old pal had been acting ‘irrationally’ and jealous towards Emily – accusing her of cheating on her then-boyfriend.
The boy suddenly scooped her up and then threw her over the side of the bridge – and terrified Emily plummeted 25ft to the ground, landing on the canal path below.
Emily claims that on impact she heard a ‘massive crack’ from her spine and says she remembers every ‘agonising’ second of the fall.
The girl was immediately rushed to Birmingham Hospital, West Midlands. At that time, she was given the devastating news that her spinal cord had ben severed and would never walk again.
“I remember the moment he threw me, then landing and hearing a massive ‘crack’. I couldn’t feel anything, I knew it wasn’t good.
“I woke up in hospital and doctors told me: ‘You’ll never walk again’.” Emily added.
The teen responsible admitted a charge of wounding and he was sentenced to a two-year youth rehabilitation order, avoiding time behind bars.
Emily shares that she was disappointed and didn’t think it was fair that he has completely changed my life with this punishment
“I lost everything I had – I don’t have a social life anymore.
“But I feel so lucky to be here. I was given a second chance at life.” She added.
Fortnately, the girl still battles daily pain – but is looking to the future and remains positive.
Emily shared her story on Tik Tok and inspires others. Her video had 3.5million views.
