A 17-year-old girl named Cara Gan from the Phillippines made a splash with a graduation gown that she sewed and designed herself with the help of her mother. Like any girls, she wanted her graduation party dress to be memorable and very special. She wanted her dress to make a special statement.
The girl first set out to have the dress made by someone else. When being less than satisfied with that result, she still had plenty of time so she enlisted her mother’s help with sewing and went on to design her own creation.
She and her mother spent a full month sewing each panel of the dress together. Cara hand-painted a beautiful array of lilies on the dress, and she also added crystals for a dazzling effect.
“My dress tells a very personal story about the things I hold close to my heart — lilies, the color green, painting, and creating new things.”, she said.
“I’m an independent designer in the US, and I have to tell you I’m madly in love with this. I LOVE ball gowns, and yours is one of the best I’ve ever seen! You rock on with your bad self!”
This is not the first time the girl has designed her own dress. For her junior prom last year, she also embellished the skirt portion of her dress with a glittering array of crystals.
She shared that she loves doing projects with her mother. It not only brings them closer together to share doing something they both enjoy so much, but it also makes her able to get the exact result she wants since she can be totally honest with her mom about the exact effect she’s seeking.
On youtube, Cara’s posted describing the process of creating the gown has since gone viral and currently boasts millions of views. This might very well be the beginning of a career in fashion design for Cara.
