12 Insane Yet True Stories Shared by Hotel Workers

Hotels are frequently thought of as a haven to rest and unwind, where we may escape the stresses of daily life. However, for those who labor behind the scenes, the situation might be very different. Today, we’ve collated actual stories from hotel employees that range from annoying and cringe-worthy to downright sh0cking, giving us a newfound appreciation for these dedicated people.

Story 1:

My friend had a modest motel. One night, I was present when he received a call from one of the visitors reporting a big collision in the room next door. We checked the computer and saw that the room was uninhabited. We knocked on the door, but there was no answer.
We opened it and were sh0cked to see a cat in the room. It knocked over and broke a light. We took it back to the office and reviewed the room records. The last guest had left the cat behind when he checked out three days ago. When we phoned him, he was already on the other side of the nation and swore he wasn’t coming back for the cat.
My buddy gained possession of the cat, and she is now the hotel cat. She wanders about the property and gets rid of any mice or vermin. She’s even had her photo on the wall as one of the “employees.” We’re not sure why the housekeeping staff did not see her when the room was being cleaned. We believe the vacuum startled the cat, so she hid elsewhere. © mrsheikh/Reddit

Working at a premium hotel, I once received a request to remove a snail from a guest’s room because it was “coming after them” and they were “afraid for their young child.” © Additional-Car2163/Reddit

Story 3:

A visitor contacted the police to report noise in another room. The cops came and proceeded up to the loud room with a front desk receptionist.
When they arrived, they discovered a woman with two children, her ex-husband, her aunt, and another odd male. They were deep-frying chicken in the room around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. I recall watching a man rush out of the lobby with his deep fryer, spewing oil all over the place. © c***hiegoo/Reddit

Story 5:

I worked at a hotel throughout the summer, and let’s just say it wasn’t the best. There were 50 rooms and just two personnel on reception. We were always really busy, so it was difficult to keep up with everyone.
One couple reserved a room for a week, and they had so much stuff that my colleague and I were surprised. In the end, they grabbed everything from the room, even the windows. They practically removed our windows. We were both fired that day. © Serenityvoiid / Reddit

Story 6:

I once had a guy check in at night. He came back down and grumbled about not being able to view the beach from his room. It was night.
He argued with me until I responded, “Sir, I assure you, the ocean is there.” The motel was less than fifty feet from the beach. © SecretBaker8 | Reddit

Story 7:

A affluent couple in their late fifties was checking out of a fancy hotel in Rome when the Front Office requested that the Housekeeper check the minibar. The Housekeeper returned the phone and informed us that the curtains in the room were gone. The Front Office manager was compelled to ask the visitors to open their bags, which revealed that the curtains were inside. Crazy! © DiegoBkk | Reddit

My friend works at a hotel and told me this strange tale about a visitor who wanted a room full with balloons for a surprise party. The staff spent the entire night blowing up balloons, just for the visitor to check out without viewing the suite! copyright shyrochyn/Reddit

I had a lady take a mattress. She paid cash for the accommodation and a $200 deposit. She walked into the room with a guy, removed the mattress, loaded it into a U-Haul, and then departed.
She returned in the morning and received her deposit back. We didn’t realize the mattress was stolen until the cleaner went to clean the room and the management examined the cameras. copyright myownb***/Reddit

Story 10:

As the proprietor of a bed and breakfast for the past eight years, the strangest item I’ve ever discovered was an old, worn notebook with “Why I Love Salad” inscribed on the front. Inside, there were literally 40-80 pages touting how delicious salad is. The author occasionally mentioned that they thought salad was alive in some way. It seems to have been composed intermittently over several years. © D***musyo/Reddit

One night, the folks in a room took whatever they could. They took the bedsheets, blankets, pillows, lights, TV, phone, remote, Bible, shower curtains, towels, and so on. They basically grabbed anything that was not fastened down and wasn’t too huge. They were not caught because they took a side stairway that was not visible from the front desk, and none of the cameras worked.
They used a false identity, and the card they used to pay did not work. The hotel is near to three institutions, so we assumed it was a fraternity stunt. copyright loustone1955/Reddit

Story 12:

I worked at a five-star hotel. A lady once contacted the front desk about her misplaced Cartier bracelet, saying that it was in her room and that someone had taken it. When the guest left, the girl at the front desk discreetly unlocked the safe and took money out.
She went to the nearest Cartier store to acquire a similar bracelet after the visitor showed her a photo of the missing one. Of course, the lady was quite happy, and she continued to book with our hotel whenever she came in town.
